Notary & Signing Agent FAQs

A notary, or notary public, is an individual who can witness signatures on legal documents (and verify the identity of the signer) or administer oaths. They do not validate the legality, accuracy, or truthfulness of the documents nor do they provide legal advice. Questions regarding the document should be directed to the issuing authority.

A signing agent is a notary public who is certified in notarizing loan closing documents. Their duties may also include having the documents notarized, delivered, and processed.
No. In accordance with California state law, CA Notary Publics do not have the authority to perform online or remote notarizations; the signer with a valid photo ID must be present before the Notary Public to have their document notarized. For convenience, a Notary Public can come to you.

Live Scan Fingerprinting FAQs

Live Scan Fingerprinting is the digital recording and submission of an individual’s fingerprints to their State’s Department of Justice and/or FBI for a criminal history background check. Live Scan Fingerprinting is a convenient and mess-free (inkless) way for individuals to complete a criminal history background check required as a condition of licensure, certification, employment, adoption, or immigration/VISA purposes.
We charge a $25 “rolling” fee (scanning fee) and a $30 mobile convenience fee ($55 total for service). Depending on your location or time of the appointment there may be additional fees added to your balance due. Government or other agency fees, plus the cost of your certifications or licensure are not included and are paid separately. The State of California Department of Justice has a list of agency fees you can download and view (last updated August 2012 and fees are subject to change without notice; call to verify pricing).
For all Live Scan Fingerprinting services, please have the following available:
Valid Government Issued Photo Identification or Other Acceptable Form(s) of Identification
Request for Live Scan Application from Requesting Agency (this MUST include completed ORI and Applicant Type assigned by the Department of Justice).
A California Live Scan is the fingerprinting process necessary for the California Department of Justice to report your Summary Criminal History record (usually of the last 7 years) to the agency requesting your background check.
